Five Artistes Who Were Very Hot In 2018 But Nowhere To Be Found In 2019 – Who Did You Miss Most??

Published

By

It’s a common case that happens every year. An artiste pops this year, two to three records which gain popularity, a few collaborations with the heavyweights, a co-sign from one of them.

A record deal comes into the picture and the artiste is predicted to become an established act in the next few months. But then, a surprise, The following year, the artiste completely goes off the radar.

Amongst the multitudes of songs that drop, theirs fail to receive mass listenership and gradually, they begin to lose a foothold of the influence they gained last year.

1. Slimcase
On the back of pioneering a genre, a Wizkid co-signs that produced a single, “Gucci Snake“, Slimcase was expected to extend. And with the buzz that followed Azaman, Slimcase, we thought won’t end up as a one-hit-wonder.

But then, he’s faded off. He’s not been visible and Zlatan‘s rise has contributed to that decline and we wonder, What happened to OtunbaLamba?

2. Duncan Mighty
Port Harcourt king came back to the industry in a rush that surprised many. WizKid had reached out to him and together they created magic if that’s the exact word to describe it. Fake Love dominated the airwaves in the first quarter of 2018 and the popularity of that record made artistes notice the impact Duncan Mighty could wield on songs.

He got features with a whole lot of artists ranging from Lil Kesh, CeezaMilli to Tiwa Savage and Davido and now 2019, he’s conspicuously missing.

Not even a “hit” record attributed to him so far this year compared to 2018 when he was busy scoring hit songs.

Wow. Saddening.

3. Chinko Ekun
Perhaps, with the buzz around Able God, we thought that would be the song that will turn around the fortunes of ChinkoEkun.

At least, Zlatan‘s verse on Able God was what kick-started the Zanku wave. But the follow up to Able God failed to transform into a hit.

ChinkoEkun failed to sustain that momentum and then, the spotlight has been focused away from him and you’ll be right if you term him as a one-hit-wonder.

4. Victor AD
Should Victor be on this list? He released an EP, He had a song with Davido. He was also nominated for the Headies.

You’ll say this. But has he been able to re-create the wave of “Wetin You Gain“? which was one of those viral records that lasted long in the mainstream. None of his recent records have popped.

He released an EP next which was a bad move considering he had barely used two years in the industry. Right now, the questions on everyone’s lips is, What happened to the Victor AD that sang Wetin We Gain.

5. Idowest
From the success of Shepeteri and with a record deal with the biggest label in Nigeria, DMW, many tipped him for greatness. But if a sound style becomes too repetitive, the music sphere gets tired and moves on to another artiste offering a fresh, unique sound.

He stuck to his guns, still recreating music from the same Shepeteri sound. We all reached diminishing marginal utility point and how many knew Idowest released an album this year. Most didn’t. He has made low-quality music this year and it’s so painful to see an artiste we put so much faith in failing to turn up.

So guys, What Do You Think About This List?

A MUST READ – These Are 10 Ways To Avoid Being Scammed By ‘Yahoo Boys’

Published

on

By

It is no longer news that ‘scams are real’ and ‘scammers exist’, they are humans like us and they are apparently in every corner of the world.

Down the memory lane, the term “yahoo” was localized in Nigeria in the early 2000s as the name for ‘internet fraud’.

While the internet has made it simple for us as humans to connect easily, the simplicity has brought in bigger challenges.

The internet offers us a wide range of benefits but sadly, internet fraudsters devise clever plans to defraud millions of people every day.

Online fraud and scams operate under many different disguises and go by many names such as yahoo-yahoo, cyber-crime, internet fraud, online crime, e-crime.

Here are a few facts about online scammers:-

1. They are very patient strategically looking for a perfect time to strike.

2. Older women are usually the ‘chief target’ for scammers.

3. These scammers are usually too quick in trying to convince you about his or her identity backing it up with fake ‘proof’

4. In Nigeria, scammers who are usually referred to as ‘Yahoo boys’, make use of voodoo or traditional powers called ‘Yahoo Plus’ or ‘Yahoo Plus Plus’.

5. The most common type of ‘Yahoo Plus’ or ‘Yahoo Plus Plus’ is ‘do as I say’ which means you’ll be manipulated to give in to their demands, and only come to your senses to realize the errors after you’ve been defrauded.

6. Everyone is potential target for scammers and they are getting increasingly sophisticated in their attempts to get your money.

7. Examples of the scam used by internet fraudsters are; Job offer scams, lottery scams, beneficiary scams, online dating scams, charity fraud scams e.t.c.

So to avoid being scammed by these fraudsters via the aforementioned means above, here are few tips to eliminate the risk:

1. Spot/detect imposter – Scammers often pretend to be someone you trust; a family member or a company you do business with. Don’t send money or give out personal information in response to an unexpected request.

2. Be ‘red alert’ to the fact that scams exist – When dealing with uninvited contacts from people or businesses, whether it’s over the phone/mail/social networking site, always consider the possibility that the approach may be a scam.

3. Know who you’re dealing with – If you’ve only ever met someone online or are unsure of the legitimacy of a business, take some time to do a bit more research. If a message or email comes from a friend and it seems unusual or out of character for them, contact your friend directly.

4. Do not open suspicious texts, pop-up windows or click on links – Be careful not to click on spammed links which could lead to compromising your personal details.

5. Keep your personal details secure – It is necessary to advice that you keep your passwords and pin numbers secured. Be very careful about how much personal information you share on social media sites.

6. Review your privacy settings on social media – If you use social networking sites, such as Facebook, be careful who you connect with and learn how to use your privacy and security settings to ensure you stay safe.

7. Be extremely cautious when dealing with anyone you’ve met online – Scammers use dating websites, social media, and many other sites to reach potential targets. They can quickly feel like a friend or even a romantic partner, but that is part of the tactics to get you to trust them.

8. Don’t be pressured to act immediately – Scammers typically try to make you think there’s a limited time offer. They want to push you into action before you have time to think, it’s never a good idea to make an important decision quickly.

9. Fake social media profiles – Some scammers create fake profiles and send you a friend request or message. If you respond, they then send you offers to make quick money or invest, or ask for money to help them with trouble they are having. They could also gain access to your personal information and steal your identity.

10. Text Message To Update Your Bank Verification Number – If you get a text message on your cell phone from your bank saying “there’s been a problem with your bank verification number (BVN), and you need to call right away with some account information”, the truth is your supposed “bank” is a scammer hoping you will reveal your account information.

SHOCKING STORY! David Luiz Wants To Quit Chelsea For Arsenal

Published

Chelsea defender David Luiz wants to leave the club to go to Arsenal, according to Sky sources.
The Blues centre-back trained away from the rest of Frank Lampard’s squad on Wednesday.
He is one of a number of central defenders on Unai Emery’s shortlist ahead of the transfer deadline, but Sky Sports News understands there has been no formal bid for the Brazilian yet from the Gunners.
Chelsea are reluctant to let him leave for the Emirates Stadium given their current transfer ban, as they would not be able to sign a replacement this summer.
Luiz is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2021 after signing an extension in May of this year.
The 32-year-old made 36 Premier League appearances and scored three goals last season, his most ever during an English top-flight campaign.
Unai Emery is in the market for further defensive options and Arsenal are expected to make a final push to sign Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney before the deadline.
Meanwhile, Laurent Koscielny has departed north London to join Bordeaux.

Nigerian Youths Lack Intelligent Curiosity, They Want Things Quick And Easy – Wole Soyinka

Published

on

By

Professor Wole Soyinka, has said that he would not keep silent whenever injustice is done to any powerless or vulnerable Nigerian by the people at the helms of affairs of the country.
In an interview with Premium Times, the Nobel Laurete said he feels himself reduced whenever some horrendous violation is being done to another human being, especially the downtrodden.
“If I step out of my house and there is some horrendous violation being done to another human being, I feel myself reduced, and for the rest of the day, maybe the rest of the week, I’m not really whole. It preys on my mind. In other words, there are other things that I would rather be doing than going out on a limb to bat.
“If you live in a society like this where you feel, sometimes, that you are completely alienated from the rest of society, where society itself doesn’t seem to share, in the main, same principles, where very often, in fact, you find the very people you’re trying to defend turning on you because they prefer to take the side of power. They feel more comfortable under tyrannical forces because they perhaps feel that, if they just endure such tyrannical forces, they might go away in the end.”
Speaking on the Nigerian youth, Soyinka frowned at the treachery of the so-called young generation saying many of them are only just waiting for their own slice of the national cake, stressing that they admit it, they co-opt others and even ridicule the progressive ones among them.
“The first thing is that I have never given a blanket endorsement of youth. I used to exchange friendly disagreements with Tai Solarin from time to time over this. I remember I took him on once when he said, I can die for the young generation, and I said, don’t say that. Don’t be so sweeping in your statement, some of this young generation is treacherous and many of them are only just waiting for their own slice of the national cake.
“But something has been happening to our youth. It’s probably the technological strides in communication and dissemination of information. Far too many of them, empty-headed, really think that they know. They are what I sometimes refer to as the generation of be–the- first- to- comment. It’s like they are sitting down there, they don’t understand the issue somebody has just posited, either as a blog or whatever you people call it, I don’t know– I don’t live in that virtual realm,” he added.
He said some Nigerian youth lack intelligent curiosity, adding that they want things quick and easy and that they ridicule those who take the trouble to set a standard.
“They strike me as capable of betraying a serious, genuine cause and endangering themselves–-which is okay–-but to endanger the overall movement is unacceptable. They want everything quick and easy, and they want knowledge as pre-digested mush.
“Anything that requires even figuratively chewing over an idea, a moment, an occurrence, they resent it, they ridicule those who take the trouble to set a standard-– it’s too much labour for them to aspire to a higher level. I become sickened, in the main, by this so-called new generation,” he said.
